She couldn't decide if this place was magical or just creepy. She walked to the stairs. Oh great. More stairs. She became aware of a heavy stepping sound and sighed deeply. She TOLD him to stay in the car and wait! She could totally handle this herself ! How many times did she have to... She turned her head and saw a BEAR. And the red ball bounced down the stairs.

Painting Process
I had an image of an old ornate interior that I used for a reference. I ended up altering it quite a bit. I mostly liked the stairway leading up. I had this idea of a bear walking up the stairs. My first idea was looking down the stairs and seeing a bear on the landing below. The bear would be looking up. I actually started sketching out such an image but it was hard to get the perspective right and basically, it was not fun for me to do. So this bear is going up the stairs.
I was having a hard time with the stairs on the right. Sometimes elements become too precious and I have a had time getting it just so. So I have to shake myself out of this mindset and just go for it. I very quickly outlined it with a china marker and painted it a very bright color. Sometimes I make it worse. But sometimes, like in this case, it's very freeing and it works!
I painted a dressmaker figure in the room on the left. The dressmaker figure is very nostalgic for me. My Mom was a seamstress and had an old dressmaker figure like this. When I was small I always found it both familiar and slightly scary. I saw the two screws on the top as eyes. My brother and I named it "Lady"
Some friends of mine bought the La Glace painting. When they saw this one, they said "Oh the bear went inside!" I hadn't thought of it that way and loved the idea. Hence the title for this category.
